We oftentimes ask who the best person is to go to for something. We look unto others, the so-called experts, professionals, and figures of authority to answer this question. However, especially when it comes to healing, vitality, and overall well-being, no one can tell you what is wrong, how you feel, what works best for you and so on. The best to turn to is yourself, for each one of us have our own best alarm system, diagnostic tool, doctor, nurse, expert, authority, healer and everything else built-in within us. The biggest problem is we have forgotten or have not learned how to harness the benefits of each of those elements within us. We dismiss those voices within us and fall prey to all the noise out there, which combined create the fertile ground for us to be our own worst patient instead of our best one.
The body talks
Nature is such a magnificent creation, doing what it is designed to do with or without our deliberate intervention. Just try to imagine managing all the things your body does on a conscious level. That would be such an immense task, you would not be able to keep up or have the time to do anything else. Fortunately for us, every aspect of our body is in communication with one another, making sure all is functioning properly, without us being attentive to it all the time. It is only when the body gets overwhelmed, it starts sending us signals in the form of what we call symptoms. That is the alarm system going off. First it starts with the whispers, slowly getting louder and louder until the screams can no longer be ignored and our bodies forces us to pause by shutting down almost completely. We often ignore or dismiss the early signals of our bodies, those little aches and pains, until they become persistent or increase in intensity so much so they knock us off of our feet.
The language of the body
The signals our bodies give us, tell us exactly what is wrong and what needs attention. The body speaks to us through all of our senses, not through the words we speak. The headaches, the lack of energy, the tingling sensations, the yellowing of the eyes, the greying complexion, the swelling of your ankle, the body odor, the color of the stool, the thinning of the hair, lack of taste, the hoarse voice, just to name a few, all give us an indication of what is going on (and where), the diagnosis. When we ignore those signals, or just learn to live with them as is often instructed, the disruptions in our bodies stack up, creating new symptoms while obscuring old ones, making it increasingly difficult for us to discern what the root cause of the dis-ease was in the first place and how to correct it. Learn the language of the body and you will be able to intervene quickly, before things get that far.
What you are made of heals you
Your body, as your doctor, prescribes you the remedies to get better. First thing on the list usually is to rest so you can recover. Your energy is low, leaving you with little to no choice except slow down, sleep, and relax. Next, your body tends to shut down your desire to eat and sometimes even drink, getting you in a state of fasting, so it can redirect energy towards healing instead of digestion. Slowly your appetite returns and you begin to crave certain specific foods or flavors. These usually are the broths/ soups, vegetables, and fruits, which contain the vitamins and minerals your body needs to restore the communication and facilitate the flow of energy within. Then, you start craving the proteins, which are the building blocks of our bodies, followed by the beneficial fats. Finally, you begin to feel the urge to get active again, an indication of increased vitality. Stay in tune with your body during this whole process not to overextend yourself and soon you are well again. This process is supported by, among others, the nurse within you, as well as nutrition expert and the healer.
Get out of your own way
How often do you meet up with friends while you rather stay home, go back to work even when you are not fully recovered from a cold or flu, eat that whole bag of chips or sweets knowing you feel bloated and nauseous afterwards, push through body aches or numb them down with medication just to do an activity, or anything else of the sort? These are just some of the ways you are your own worst patient. No matter how perfect the design of your body, as long as you as the patient ignore its prescriptions or rush through the healing process, you stand in your own way of healing. No matter which outside sources you go to for solutions, as long as you do not follow the suggestions adjusting them as you experience their effects, you will remain unwell. Turn yourself into your ideal patient, the one who asks and listens, who is open to try new ways, who acts accordingly, who is diligent, who is consistent, and who prioritizes healing.
You might go faster alone or not at all, while together, you get much further
With all that said, when you are unwell and low on energy, it is harder to get things going, to do and have the things necessary to support healing within yourself. You are fortunate if you have someone in your inner circle who is willing and able to help you search for and sort through the information available, to find what works for you, and support you while you go through the phases of healing. Might you be looking for someone like that, consider a call with me and request one now. i, have been in a similar place where you are at now and i, know you can heal too. i, look forward to hearing from you and collaborate with you, so you can enjoy life to the fullest too.
